Republicans won the election in dominant fashion, coming in as the overwhelming favorite, and leading from wire to wire. Before the election started, Republicans had approximately a 93% chance of winning.
The closest Democrats ever got was toward the end of the election, when they had a 35% chance of winning, but ultimately Republicans proved to be too much.
